The Baengnyeong-Daecheong Geopark

Baengnyeongdo Island's Dumujin, Daecheongdo Island's
Seopungbaji Cliff,
and Socheongdo Island's Bunbawi
Rock are three geological heritage
sites of considerable
value within Baengnyeong-Daecheong Geopark,
presenting information on the environment of Northeast
Asia about 1 billion
years ago in the Neoproterozoic Era.
On Baengnyeongdo, Daecheongdo,
and Socheongdo Islands
which were formed over a billion years ago, unique
ecosystems and environments were created, and as
people inhabited
the areas, they have built up a multi-
cultural background and history.
Based on these natural
and cultural assets of the islands, the area was
certified
as a National Geopark in July 2019 and is now proceeding
with
the filing procedure of applying for UNESCO Global
Geopark.
