A UNESCO Global Geopark

A UNESCO Global Geopark defines a single
geographical area
incorporating internationally critical
geological sites and landscapes.
The management
approach of these regions includes a holistic
concept,
providing for conservation, education, and sustainable
development. They consider the links between geological
and
geomorphological landscapes, the ecosystems
of the plants and
animals that inhabit the areas,
the archaeological history of human
habitation, and
the history and culture of their descendants.
It is also
the aim of the UNESCO Global Geoparks to guarantee
sustainability in using the resources on this planet,
fight climate
change, and reduce geohazards.
